Starting a New Career at 55
I worked as an actuary for 27-years. I loved my job. I love solving problems. I am the type of employee that works best for a boss that is a mentor and wants to manage people. The last such person I worked for retired in 2004.
I spent another 9 years struggling: the mortgage crisis of the mid-to-late 2000's, a young growing family, health problems and financial difficulties both self-inflicted and external.
In my late 40's, I burned out.
